FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Q: What is the primary goal of the retreat?

A: Beckley Retreats bridge 25+ years of scientific research with ceremonial practice to support meaningful wellbeing and personal transformation. Our programs emphasize safety, ethical practices, evidence-based integration, and the healing power of community and nature. We believe psychedelic experiences, when approached with intention and proper support, can catalyze profound growth—but the real work happens in how you prepare, integrate, and sustain change over time.

  • Q: How many ceremonies are included?

A: Two 6-hour psilocybin ceremonies. Having two ceremonies allows for different intentions, varied depths of experience, and integration learning between them. The two-ceremony structure is based on research showing cumulative benefits.

  • Q: Is this suitable for first-time participants?

A: Yes, the majority of Beckley participants are new to psilocybin. Our comprehensive preparation program is specifically designed to ready first-timers for the experience. Prior psychedelic experience is neither required nor advantageous—what matters most is clear intention, openness, and willingness to do inner work.

  • Q: Can I bring a support person or partner?

A: Partners and friends are welcome to attend together. You can book shared accommodations or separate rooms. The shared experience often deepens relationships and provides mutual support during integration.

  • Q: How big are the groups?

A: We maintain intimate group sizes of 12-15 participants per retreat with a 1:3 facilitator-to-participant ratio.

  • Q: I’m taking SSRIs. Can I participate?

A: SSRIs interact with psilocybin and generally require participants to be at least 3 months clear of all SSRIs/SNRIs and other mood-altering compounds, with knowledge and support of their prescribing physician. Prospective guests on very low doses may be considered on a case-by-case basis. CRITICAL: Do not stop psychiatric medications on your own. Work with your prescribing physician. Our team provides guidance and resources, but medication changes must be supervised by your doctor.

  • Q: What conditions prevent participation?

A: The screening form has been designed with medical doctor, psychiatrist, and psychotherapist input to identify conditions and contraindications. Absolute contraindications include: significant cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, severe liver or kidney disease, Bipolar I disorder, schizophrenia, active psychosis, recent suicidal ideation/attempts (within 6 months), pregnancy or breastfeeding, and incompatible medications that cannot be safely discontinued. Relative contraindications are evaluated case-by-case. Participant safety is the priority.

  • Q: What if there’s a medical emergency?

A: Comprehensive safety protocols include research-informed protocols, experienced facilitators present 24/7, established emergency procedures, partnerships with local medical facilities (nearest hospital approximately 30 minutes), and 24/7 access to medical consultation.

  • Q: Will facilitators be present during ceremonies?

A: Yes, continuous support is provided throughout ceremonies with somatic support, emotional guidance and reassurance, music curation, safety monitoring, and therapeutic presence. You are never alone during the medicine experience.

  • Q: Is integration support included?

A: Yes. On-site integration includes pre-ceremony preparation, daily integration circles, somatic practices, and group sharing circles. Post-retreat support includes four group integration calls (weeks 1, 2, 4, 6), email support, alumni community access, monthly alumni calls (ongoing), and referrals to local therapists. Optional one-to-one coaching sessions available ($230 each).

  • Q: Where is the retreat located and how do I get there?

A: De Hoorneboeg in the Achterhoek region, approximately 25 miles from Amsterdam. Fly into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS). Ground transportation: train to nearest station + taxi (1.5 hours total), direct taxi/rideshare from Amsterdam (1.5 hours), or rental car with free on-site parking. Detailed travel instructions provided after booking.

  • Q: What are the accommodations like?

  • Q: What type of food is provided?

A: Chef-prepared organic, locally-sourced, seasonal cuisine—wholesome European style with nourishing soups, fresh vegetables, and whole grains. Vegetarian by default. All dietary accommodations available: vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, allergies, sensitivities, and cultural/religious requirements.

  • Q: Is Wi-Fi available?

A: Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is available for essential communication. Cell phone service is limited in the rural location. Wi-Fi calling apps (WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype) recommended. We encourage a digital detox during your retreat.

  • Q: What should I bring?

A: Passport or photo ID, personal medications, comfortable layered clothing, warm layers, rain jacket (essential), sturdy walking shoes, journal and pen, reusable water bottle, toiletries, phone and chargers.
