Psilocybin Sessions & Therapeutic Approach

Type of Psilocybin Medicine:

🍄 Dried psilocybin mushroom powder, cultivated on-site in Jamaica using controlled, consistent methods. Dosing ranges from 3-15 grams depending on individual needs, tolerance, and therapeutic goals. Our three-session protocol allows for progressive deepening across the week.

Setting & Atmosphere:

🏝️ Unlike traditional group ceremonies held in circles, MycoMeditations provides private dosing spaces spread across the retreat property. Each guest selects their preferred location—whether under palm trees by the ocean, in thatched pavilions, in garden hammocks, or on private patios. This approach ensures both privacy and proximity to support.

Sessions are predominantly internal experiences. Most guests use noise-cancelling headphones and eyeshades while listening to carefully curated music playlists. The atmosphere is therapeutic and introspective rather than ceremonial or ritualistic.

Facilitation Style:

👥 Each session features a dedicated therapist or facilitator positioned nearby for support as needed. The retreat leader circulates among all guests throughout each session. Our team provides:

  • Non-directive, person-centered support
  • Trauma-informed presence
  • Somatic awareness guidance
  • Gentle reassurance and grounding when needed
  • Space for your own internal process to unfold

Our philosophy: “The mushrooms don’t give you what you want, but they give you what you need.” The medicine evokes what you need to process for healing. Our team helps guide you through whatever emerges.

Dosing Protocol:

Session 1 (Day 2): 3-5g dried powder – Lower therapeutic dose to become familiar with psilocybin. For most guests, this is their first psychedelic experience. We assess your response to inform subsequent doses.

Session 2 (Day 4): 3-10g dried powder – Increased dosage where therapeutic effects become heightened and deeper processing begins. This is the range where clinically significant healing typically occurs.

Session 3 (Day 6): 3-15g dried powder – Final dose determined by outcomes from prior sessions. Many guests increase for deeper work; others repeat their second dose or decrease to consolidate the week’s insights.

Session Duration:

⏱️ Each psilocybin session lasts approximately 4-6 hours from ingestion to completion. Integration discussion the following day lasts approximately 4 hours.

Opening Practices:

🧘 Each dosing day begins with group discussion exploring your current state, intentions, and preparation. Guided meditation helps cultivate openness and set the foundation for therapeutic work.

Participant Experience:

🌊 Experiences range widely—from blissful to challenging, smooth to intense. You may encounter waves of emotion, profound insights, bodily sensations, visual imagery, memories, or encounters with different aspects of yourself. These rich experiences allow deep exploration of what has caused pain or held you back.

The journey is highly personal and internal. While you dose alongside other guests, each person has their own private space and dedicated support. Group connection happens primarily during preparation and integration sessions.

Safety & Support:

  • Registered nurse present on-site during all sessions
  • Doctor and psychiatrist on-call 24/7
  • Therapists and facilitators strategically positioned near all guests
  • Retreat leader mobile and checking on all guests throughout
  • Immediate access to support if needed
  • Medical emergency protocols in place
  • Calm, reassuring presence from experienced team

Cultural/Spiritual Context:

🌍 MycoMeditations uses a contemporary Western therapeutic framework rather than indigenous ceremonial traditions. We honor the ancient roots of psilocybin use while creating an approachable model for modern Western guests from diverse backgrounds and belief systems.

Our non-dogmatic approach welcomes guests of all spiritual orientations—or none. Whether you view your experience through a psychological, spiritual, or scientific lens, our team helps you integrate in ways that resonate with your personal worldview.

We draw on therapeutic frameworks including:

  • Depth Psychology (Jungian concepts, unconscious material, symbolism)
  • Somatic Therapy (body awareness, sensation work)
  • Internal Family Systems (parts work, self-integration)
  • Mindfulness (non-judgmental awareness, presence)
  • Transpersonal Psychology (transcendent experiences, expanded states)

Featured Guest Testimonials

“I am certain my life will now be divided: Life Before MycoMeditations & Life After MycoMeditations.”

“I made this trip with my aunt, and found it an excellent experience to share with a loved one. I cannot overstate the skill, love, and qualification of the operations and facilitation teams at Myco. We both felt completely safe and looked after the entire time. The friendships formed with the other participants in our group of 11 will last a lifetime.” — Jessica

“This was one of those ‘punctuation mark’ events in life where everything that happens can be referenced as happening ‘before’ and ‘after’ my week with Myco.”

“Every interaction I had with every facilitator during the week was unique and overwhelmingly positive. I felt incredibly safe, important and valued from the day I arrived until the day I departed. I knew that having the high dose experience necessary for maximum impact could only be done safely under the care and supervision of experienced professionals. Within a few hours of arriving at Myco it was clear to me that I was in the best hands.” — James

“I’m convinced eight days with MycoMeditations did more to help heal my psyche than a lifetime of pills, IVs and counseling was ever going to.”

“The support staff possessed the requisite training and experience, but beyond that, each exhibited an uncanny temperament that allowed the work to unfold safely and to astonishing benefit. I definitely witnessed the art of being a healer at its best. It reminded me of why I originally went into medicine.” — J.R., Medical Professional

“I can honestly say that I am not the same person as when I left for Jamaica. My family is amazed at the transformation.”

“I read all of the reviews, read books and watched every documentary on psilocybin to prepare myself for this journey. After a year of me hesitating, I pulled the trigger and went to Myco. This has been the single most impactful decision I have ever made. My husband and adult children thank me for doing this for myself. This experience has changed me enormously and I wish everyone could go to Myco.” — Dawn

“Next to giving birth to my two daughters, this has been the most beautiful and life changing experience of my life.”

“The changes that I not only feel in myself, but my family can see, are invaluable. Deep down I knew there was another way of existing in this world. I knew that I could live and love deeper than I was. It is our birthright to be happy. If you feel called to this kind of healing, please be brave enough to accept. There is so much beauty on the other side.” — Michelle

“My sessions at Myco were able to release deeply repressed trauma that I have never been able to access in any other healing modality.”

“I am a survivor of early sexual abuse and trauma. My life has been filled with chronic anxiety, physical illnesses and fear of intimacy. I have been in psychotherapy or some kind of healing modality since 1993, yet at 65 years old, I still found myself struggling to stay well, work successfully and engage with others deeply. Release of deeply held trauma was not easy but I feel so shifted! So much lighter! So free!” — Suzi

“I am blown away by the degree of professionalism, knowledge, skill and organization that I encountered.”

“Not knowing what to expect, I immediately felt safe and taken care of. Nothing there is left to chance, MycoMeditations’ vast experience shines from the minute you arrive. They can handle anything! My experience there changed and saved my life. No need to elaborate further. Thank you, MycoMeditations Team, for what you do, for what you created, and for the profound impact you will continue to have.” — Harry

“I’ve been to a few psychedelic retreats. I thought MycoMeditations was my favorite by far.”

“People from all walks of life with different belief systems can come here. A large portion of the facilitators are experienced therapists and have seen it all and know how to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. The integration meetings and one-on-one chats are an integral part of the process here and you can tell that these people know what they are doing every step of the way.” — Raoul

“We chose MycoMeditations because of the western-medicine approach analogous to the Johns Hopkins treatment protocols.”

“The therapeutic attention that I received was unlike anything I ever experienced. This is a program engineered to provide profound transformation in the setting of safety. As far as I can tell, every participant shifted with personal change for the things that motivated them to seek help. I am changed, and my wife is changed. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is the most profound experience of my life.” — Gregory

“My experience at MycoMeditations showed me what the gold-standard for this work looks like. This will be the center I recommend unreservedly.”

“I read about MycoMeditations in a professional journal and felt a need to visit. It was a radical experience—strange, challenging, and beautiful. It was shadowy and transcendent, the territory familiar and yet unknown. By the third trip I felt a profound healing. I don’t think this door would ever have opened for me without the psilocybin. It illuminated what had been deeply unconscious.” — Kay, Mental Health Professional

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Experience
  • Q: What makes MycoMeditations different from other psychedelic retreats?

A: MycoMeditations stands apart through several key factors: our therapy team consists of licensed mental health professionals (LMFT, LCSW) rather than just trained facilitators; we use evidence-based protocols informed by Johns Hopkins, Imperial College London, and Yale; our comprehensive integration includes ~20 hours of therapy during retreat plus 8 weeks of post-retreat support and lifetime alumni access; we offer three psilocybin sessions with individualized dosing in private spaces (not group ceremonies); and our longitudinal data shows 100% of guests achieve clinically significant improvements at 1-year follow-up.

  • Q: Do I need prior experience with psychedelics to attend?

A: No. Approximately 60-70% of our guests have never taken psychedelics before attending MycoMeditations. Our program is specifically designed to safely introduce people to therapeutic psilocybin work. Our first session uses a lower dose (3-5g) to help you become familiar with the experience, and our therapy team provides extensive preparation and guidance throughout.

  • Q: What can I expect to happen during my retreat?

A: Your retreat involves approximately 20 hours of therapeutic work balanced with rest and integration. You’ll participate in three psilocybin sessions (Days 2, 4, and 6), each lasting 4-6 hours in your own private space with dedicated support. These are internal, introspective experiences—you may encounter emotions, insights, bodily sensations, memories, or symbolic imagery. Integration days follow each session with 4-hour group discussions. You’ll also have downtime for swimming, beach walks, massage, journaling, or resting. Most guests form deep bonds with their retreat group and experience profound shifts in perspective.

Safety & Screening
  • Q: How do you determine if I’m a good fit for your retreats?

A: Our licensed therapists carefully review every application, evaluating psychiatric history (screening for contraindications like active psychosis, schizophrenia, Bipolar I disorder, or severe personality disorders), current medications (checking for dangerous interactions with MAOIs or lithium, or medications requiring discontinuation like SSRIs), medical conditions, trauma history, and therapeutic goals. If questions arise, one of our therapists will call you before making a decision.

  • Q: What are the main contraindications?

A: We cannot accept guests with active psychosis, schizophrenia, Bipolar I disorder, severe personality disorders, recent suicidal ideation with active plan/intent, certain heart conditions, seizure disorders (evaluated case-by-case), or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Medication contraindications include MAOIs and lithium (absolute contraindications due to dangerous interactions), and current use of SSRIs/SNRIs or benzodiazepines (which require 4-6 week tapers before retreat). Never discontinue psychiatric medications without consulting your prescribing physician.

Facilitation & Team
  • Q: What qualifications do your facilitators and therapists have?

A: Our therapy team includes Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), and Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC) with 10-20+ years of clinical experience. Team members have completed specialized training including MAPS MDMA-Assisted Therapy Training, CIIS Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies Certificate, Internal Family Systems (some at Level III), EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and hypnotherapy. Our medical team includes licensed practical nurses on-site during all sessions, with a medical doctor and psychiatrist on-call. Collectively, we’ve facilitated 6,000+ psilocybin therapy sessions for 2,000+ guests.

  • Q: Will I have privacy during my sessions, or is this a group ceremony?

A: Unlike many retreats that conduct group ceremonies in circles, MycoMeditations provides private dosing spaces. You’ll select your preferred location—under palm trees, in thatched pavilions, in hammocks, or on private patios. Each guest is spread across the property with a dedicated therapist or facilitator positioned nearby for support. Most of the experience is internal using noise-cancelling headphones and eyeshades. This approach offers both privacy for deep personal work and immediate access to support when needed.

Logistics & Setting
  • Q: Where exactly do your retreats take place?

A: All retreats take place in Jamaica, where psilocybin is fully legal. We operate at three oceanfront locations on Jamaica’s south coast: Blue Marlin (flagship location in Treasure Beach, $6,250-$9,600), Rainbow Tree (modern property in Billy’s Bay, $6,500-$9,600), and Bluefields Bay (luxury villas with butler service, $11,600-$13,600). All locations offer private beaches, swimming pools, ensuite bathrooms, A/C, WiFi, and beautiful natural settings. Fly into Kingston (KIN) or Montego Bay (MBJ)—we provide complimentary ground transportation (1.5-2.5 hours).

  • Q: What’s included in the price? What should I budget for additionally?

A: The retreat price includes 3 psilocybin sessions, ~20 hours of therapy, 8 days/7 nights accommodation, all meals, airport transfers, 1 massage, medical supervision, preparation materials, 3 post-retreat online integration sessions, and lifetime alumni integration access. Budget additionally for airfare ($300-$800 typically from US), travel insurance ($100-$200), additional massages ($50-$80 each), tips for villa staff ($100-$200), and personal shopping. Total additional expenses: $500-$1,200.

  • Q: Can I bring a friend or partner who isn’t participating in the retreat?

A: Non-participating companions are generally not accommodated at group retreats, as they can dilute the therapeutic container and distract from the intensive work. However, both people can attend together as participants (many couples do this), you can book a private retreat with full control over the environment, or you can attend sequential retreats where one partner goes first, then the other attends a future retreat.

  • Q: Is there WiFi and cell service? Can I stay connected during the retreat?

A: Yes, WiFi is available at all locations, and Jamaican cell service is accessible. However, we strongly encourage limiting use during the retreat. This week is for you—stepping away from normal responsibilities and distractions is part of the healing process. We recommend informing family/work you’ll be largely unavailable, checking in briefly once or twice if needed, and avoiding social media. Many guests report that disconnecting from normal life is one of the most valuable aspects of the retreat.

  • Q: What’s the group size? Will I get individualized attention?

A: Retreats typically host 8-12 guests with a high staff-to-guest ratio of approximately 1 staff member for every 2-3 guests. You’ll receive extensive individualized attention including private dosing spaces with dedicated facilitators, one-on-one check-ins with therapists, customized dosing based on your needs, and personal integration support. The group format is therapeutically powerful—witnessing others’ experiences aids your healing, shared vulnerability creates profound bonds, and different perspectives enrich integration. Many guests form lifelong friendships.

Additional FAQs
  • Q: Is psilocybin therapy legal in Jamaica?

A: Yes. Psilocybin mushrooms are fully legal in Jamaica and have been for decades. There are no legal risks to attending our retreats. However, psilocybin remains illegal in most other countries, including the United States, Canada, and much of Europe. You are not permitted to bring psilocybin back to countries where it’s illegal.

  • Q: Do you offer financing or payment plans?

A: MycoMeditations does not currently offer in-house financing. Options include: using our payment schedule ($1,500 deposit, balance due 60 days before retreat), medical credit cards (CareCredit, etc.) with promotional financing, personal loans for therapeutic purposes, HSA/FSA accounts (if your policy covers therapeutic retreats), or choosing shared rather than single occupancy to reduce cost. Many guests describe this as the most worthwhile investment they’ve ever made in their mental health.
